Special Education Assistant (SEA)
We are seeking applications for a Special Education Assistant (SEA). The SEA will work to support the students under the general direction of grades teacher, with specific responsibility for assisting in the supervision and instruction of student(s), observing and documenting student progress, and implementing plans for instruction developed by the teacher(s). This support may include behaviour management, curriculum implementation, social skills development, personal care and physical assistance.
The teacher responsible for a student with special needs is responsible for designing, supervising and assessing the educational program for that student. It is the SEA’s role to assist the teacher in this responsibility. Under the direction of the teacher, the SEA assists in implementing the program while performing functions which range from personal care to assisting with instructional programs. In addition, the SEA may provide general classroom assistance when appropriate. While SEAs may assist in the collection of data for the purpose of evaluating student progress, the teacher is responsible for evaluating and reporting on the progress of the student to parents.

Minimum Qualifications

One year experience supporting students in an education setting.

Knowledge of or experience with Waldorf education an asset.

SEAs are not required to hold BC teacher certification.
