APPLICATION PROCESS

GRADES-8.jpg

We are now accepting applications for the current 2023 - 2024 school year as well as for the 2024 - 2025 school year. Please find the online application forms by clicking the buttons below.

We accept applications on a rolling basis until all of our classes are full. If a wait list is established, applicants are looked at on a "first come first considered" basis and class composition and commitment on the part of the family will play a part in accepting students from the wait list. Submitting an application and paying the application fee is required in order to be placed on a wait list should that apply.

Please review the following age requirements before applying to SWS. Children born in late May or early June are considered to be "on the cusp" in a Waldorf School. Parents should be aware that children "on the cusp" may be interviewed by more than one teacher to determine the best placement. The birth dates below serve as a guideline, however the ultimate decision will lie with the class teacher. The child's placement is not only based on academic ability but also on the best social fit for your child and is undertaken with great care, and with the whole child in mind.

Age Requirements for the 2024-2025 School Year:

Our application Process:

1. Application

Complete the application form and submit it to the school with the non-refundable $200 application fee for each child from Kindergarten to Grade 8. Our Preschool and Parent & Child programs do not have an application fee. If the child has been at another school please attach any report cards and assessments. Application forms can be found at the bottom of the page.

A student will be considered a former student when they apply to return to the school after withdrawing during the school year, or if they have not re-registered.

A non-refundable $200.00 application fee is due at the time that an application form is submitted for all new applicants from Kindergarten to Grade 8 ONLY and is valid for the current school year only.

2. Interview

The Admissions office will arrange for an interview between you, your child and a teacher. At the same time an assessment may be made to determine the proper placement. Interviews for summer applications will be subject to teacher availability during the summer break.

3. School Visit

If you would like for your child(ren) to visit the classroom, arrangements are made through the Admissions office. Classroom visits are only conducted after an application has been submitted with the fee, and an interview has been completed.

4. Acceptance

The teacher will then make a decision based on all of the information gathered. This includes the interview with the parents and student, the assessment, reports from previous schools, and consideration of how the new student will fit into the class.  As soon as possible you will be informed as to whether your child has been accepted into the class. Upon acceptance to SWS a non-refundable deposit is due immediately.

The non-refundable deposit amount is $500, and $250 after the new academic year has already started.

For Kindergarten to Grade 8, the full deposit amount will be deducted from the annual tuition contract.

For Preschool students, $300 of the deposit amount will be deducted from the annual tuition contract.

5. Financial Arrangements

Once the deposit has been received the Finance Director will contact you to make the financial arrangements for tuition payments.

6. Admission

After returning the tuition agreement and completing the financial arrangements your child(ren) may now attend classes.

7. Trial Period

All new students are on a trial period for up to four months after starting school. Throughout the first three months there will be opportunities to review how it is going with the class teacher, the Admissions Director or the Education Director, and a formal check-in will take place towards the end of the third month, at which point we welcome parent reflection and seek input from the teachers of the student. The school may decide to extend the trial period if need be. Once this period is complete, a 14-day written notice is required to withdraw. In the event a child is withdrawn without the required 14 days notice, the responsible party(ies) will be required to pay the outstanding fees to cover the 14-day withdrawal notice period.

8. Parent Involvement

Parents are expected to attend Class Parent evenings and Parent Teacher Conferences. During registration parents agree to participate in volunteer opportunities, totalling 10 hours per family.

Parent Education, Parent Association meetings, festivals, assemblies, field trips and more, are all opportunities to learn more about Waldorf education and Sunrise, and a chance to get involved. Make sure you're signed up for the newsletter to learn of upcoming events and opportunities.
