May Day has been celebrated in countries throughout Europe for centuries. The Maypole is a symbol of fertility and simultaneously represents the world centre, the hub of the wheel of heaven, and the tree of life. The Maypole Dance weaves around the tree of life to harness and direct nature into order, to weave the forces that bring together abundance. Maypoles are also linked with freedom and the rights of the common people because they were raised on common land and the whole community celebrated around them.

 

At Sunrise, along with many Waldorf schools around the world, Mayfest is a beloved tradition eagerly anticipated by parents, teachers, and children alike. After two years of very little possibility to gather and celebrate together we strongly feel the call to nurture community with you all and warmly invite you to participate in this event. Wear your festive whites and flowers, if you’re inclined. Bring your blanket and picnic basket. Bring your children, parents, neighbours, and friends. Together let’s weave the forces that bring together abundance.

 

What to expect:

• There will be dancing, live music, vendors, silent auction, some light refreshment options, tour and information, children's activities, entertainment and games

• Come ready for rain or shine

• Bring a picnic lunch and blanket

• Bring cash

• Parking will be offsite within easy walking distance
