Sunrise Waldorf School invites applications for a Mixed-Age Kindergarten Teacher to join our Early Childhood team beginning in the 2026–2027 school year. Our kindergarten program includes preschool and kindergarten-aged children in a mixed-age setting, where nurturing relationships, imaginative play, rhythm, and gentle guidance form the foundation for healthy development. 

Founded in 1980, Sunrise Waldorf School is situated on a beautiful 7-acre campus in the Cowichan Valley near Duncan, BC. As an AWSNA member school and a Group One independent school under the BC Ministry of Education, Sunrise is dedicated to educating and inspiring children to reach their full potential through a rich, artistic Waldorf curriculum. The ideal candidate will have Waldorf Early Childhood teacher training (completed or in progress), a Bachelor of Education with BC certification or eligibility, and experience working with early years children (preschool/kindergarten). They will bring warmth, care, and confidence in guiding mixed-age groups, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and positive guidance and classroom management practices rooted in respect and connection. The successful candidate will also demonstrate the ability to foster an inclusive, nurturing environment in which all children feel safe and welcome. 

 

Responsibilities include: 

  • Creating and maintaining a nurturing, rhythmical, and aesthetically beautiful classroom environment 

  • Supporting the healthy development of preschool and kindergarten-aged children through imaginative play, song, movement, story, practical life activities, outdoor exploration, and social learning 

  • Engaging with parents through individual conversations, meetings, and regular communication 

  • Creating comprehensive planning documents (annual, unit, and lesson plans) 

  • Student assessment and reporting student progress 

  • Participating in faculty meetings and committee work 

  • Participating in festivals, field trips, celebrations, and school-wide events 

  • Supervising children during indoor, outdoor, arrival, and dismissal periods 

  • Ongoing professional learning and collegial collaboration

Salary Range: $48,100 to $76,308 depending on qualifications and experience
