Garden Coordinator & Instructor
Sunrise Waldorf School is currently accepting applications for a part time Garden Coordinator and Instructor. Established in 1980, the beautiful seven-acre Sunrise campus is in the Cowichan Valley, near Duncan BC. Sunrise is a full AWSNA member school and a Group One independent school under the BC Ministry of Education with a mission to educate and inspire students to reach their full potential through a rich and artistic Waldorf curriculum.
The ideal candidate will have relevant training and experience in farming/gardening as well as working with children. The Garden Coordinator & Instructor oversees the planning, care, maintenance, and volunteer coordination of the Sunrise Gardens. Additionally, they will be an instructor and resource for classes in providing garden-based instruction and leadership. The position requires physical labour and the capacity to creatively manage a variety of garden spaces. Facilitating the market garden ensures that Sunrise stays in compliance with the Agricultural Land Commission; and, the position may be involved in grant writing to support the garden program.
Sunrise seeks a creative, energetic and positive individual, with strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills. The successful candidate will have experience, familiarity and/or interest in Waldorf education.
Qualifications:

Training and experience in farming, gardening, and/or permaculture/biodynamics

Experience instructing or leading groups of children

Effective skills in project planning, communication, team building, and adaptability

Grounded and dependable with an ability to take initiative and bring creative solutions and approaches to garden projects

Pay: $28.00 to $30.00 hourly depending on experience; 12-14 hours per week with winter months off, schedule to be determined with the successful candidate. Hours may be increased in the future.
