Finance Manager
Sunrise Waldorf School is seeking a highly organized, detail‑oriented Finance Manager to oversee the school’s financial operations and human resources administration. As a small, independent Waldorf school, Sunrise values collaborative decision‑making, clear communication, and strong support systems for staff and families. This role is central to ensuring sound financial stewardship, regulatory compliance, and effective staff support aligned with the school’s mission.
The Finance Manager reports directly to the Head of School, participates on the Finance Committee, and works closely with staff, families, and external partners.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records and bookkeeping
• Perform monthly bank reconciliations, and manage deposits and cash flow monitoring
• Ensure strong internal financial controls are developed, implemented and maintained
• Prepare monthly or quarterly financial statements and comparative budget reports
• Support annual budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning
• Compile year-end financial records for external accountants
• Ensure timely, accurate financial reporting to the Board and Finance Committee
• Maintain and archive financial records in compliance with regulations
• Manage program budgets, such as Per Student Operating Cost, Inclusive Education and Capital budgets, etc
Accounting & Compliance
• Manage accounts payable and receivable
• Complete CRA filings including T4s, GST, and charity returns
• Issue charitable tax receipts and donation reports
• Ensure compliance with Ministry of Education financial reporting requirements
• Submit reports to external agencies (e.g., Receiver General, WorkSafeBC)
Payroll & Benefits Administration
• Process bi-weekly payroll for salaried and hourly employees
• Maintain payroll records, deductions, and remittances (CPP, EI, RRSP, etc.)
• Administer and coordinate employee benefits, and related contributions, such as Wealthsimple and Sun Life
• Verify accuracy of timesheets and pay rates, ensure correct program allocations, and reconcile all benefits, contributions, and fund transfers.
Tuition & Family Accounts
• Prepare and manage tuition contracts, discounts, remissions, and financial assistance
• Communicate with families regarding tuition, payment plans, and arrears
• Support tuition assistance processes and liaise with the Tuition Assistance Committee
Grants & Funding
• Administer Child Care Operating Funding and related reporting
• Process and/or support Affordable Child Care Benefit and Child Care Operating Funding applications and reporting
Human Resources (HR)
• Maintain employee records and contracts
• Support onboarding and offboarding, including documentation, payroll setup, and benefits enrollment
• Administer and track employee leaves
• Coordinate and track Criminal Record Checks for staff and volunteers
• Support compliance with employment standards and internal policies
• Assist the Head of School with HR administration, including contract preparation
• Respond to staff inquiries related to payroll and benefits
Qualifications & Skills
• Relevant diploma or degree related to finance, accounting, business administration or related field
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles and bookkeeping practices
• Experience with accounting software (Sage)
• HR administration experience preferred
• Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation an asset, or equivalent payroll administration experience
• Strong technology skills, including Microsoft Office (with advanced Excel), Sage/Simply Accounting, school databases (e.g., TUIO or similar systems),
• Experience in a school or non-profit environment is an asset

• Comfort with regulatory requirements (WorkSafeBC, Ministry of Education, Child Care)
• High level of accuracy, organization, and attention to detail in administrative and financial tasks
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
• Ability to navigate sensitive family/tuition conversations
• Experience working with committees or boards
• Ability to manage cyclical workflows

Salary Range: $49,500 to $60,000 based on education and years of experience
Benefits include Extended Health and Dental, paid vacation, matching RRSP, and tuition remission after probation
Work Environment: Workload is cyclical with peak periods during the school year, and with items such as tuition contracting, budgeting, contract/benefits renewals, and year‑end processes. Most work may be performed from a home‑based office within 50 km of the school.
