Part-Time Handwork Instructor, Upper Grades, 6-8

Location: Sunrise Waldorf School, Cowichan Valley, BC Salary: $32.00 per hour

 

Sunrise Waldorf School is seeking a creative and dedicated Handwork Instructor to teach the upper-grade students beginning in the 2025–2026 school year.

 

About Us: Founded in 1980, Sunrise Waldorf School is located on a beautiful seven-acre campus in the Cowichan Valley near Duncan, British Columbia. Our mission is to educate and inspire students to reach their full potential through a rich, artistic Waldorf curriculum. We offer a warm, collaborative, and supportive environment for faculty and staff, grounded in the principles of Waldorf education. Position Overview: We are looking for a skilled and passionate educator to teach Handwork to students in the upper grades. The ideal candidate has a deep appreciation for the value of practical arts in child development and is committed to nurturing creativity, perseverance, and confidence through fibre arts and related crafts. The role includes planning, instruction, assessment, and participation in the life of the school. Employees actively uphold and promote Diversity, Reconciliation, Equity and Inclusion in the classroom and as representatives of Sunrise Waldorf School.

Key Responsibilities:

· Plan and deliver engaging Handwork lessons aligned with Waldorf pedagogy

· Track and report on student progress

· Communicate effectively with parents and colleagues

· Provide supervision during recess and transition times

· Contribute to school events, festivals, and performances

· Engage in ongoing professional development

 

Preferred Qualifications:

· Experience teaching Handwork, preferably in a Waldorf school setting

· Training in Waldorf education or a strong interest in learning Waldorf pedagogy

· Proficiency in fibre arts (e.g., knitting, sewing, embroidery, weaving, etc.)

· Effective classroom management and organizational skills

· Strong interpersonal and communication abilities

· Ability to support a range of learning styles and developmental needs
